Meet Trey….

He is more than just good-looking… he is smart, athletic and a really nice guy!

Two years ago, mom invited me to photograph Trey’s big sister (who was a senior at the time). This year it was Trey’s turn…
I worried he might be a bit grumpy since I know how boys (and men) can be about “picture time”.

However, he never complained once and he did everything I asked with a “joyful heart”.

Now, mom swears I will be doing their weddings sometime in the future. I am hoping I have at least ten or so years to get used to the idea.

I think, in about ten years, I might be up for it!

and folks, we have a senior

Today was the day… I loaded all three children up and off we went to school. It was Slaton’s first day of Kindergarten and the “babies” headed off to pre-school. It has been a summer filled with so much fun and adventure. We rented a camper and did one week of camping, we went to Nashville for a weekend, we spent several weekends at our mountain house and finally this past week we hit the beach for some much needed rest. The children are at really fun ages and I am eating them up (most of the time) and enjoying every moment we have together.

I fully realize in a blink of an eye my children will be so big- like these guys…. this gorgeous brother and sister…

When booking her session this mom wrote, “Sending your first child off to college is a big transition! I find myself wanting to capture her and her relationship with her brother.”

What big changes are about to take place in this family! This smart mom had the foresight to freeze time with images capturing her daughter, her son and their relationship.
So, what is their relationship. Well… I can promise you one thing.. it does not lack emotion, silliness, or fun!

Mom said what she loves most about them is, “They are close friends, have a great sense of humor, are smart, love dogs, are resilient, love to travel, love God, are respectful, are nice to younger children, are passionate about life, LOVE their crazy, mixed up big family, will watch reality tv with their mom and are wonderful people!” Seriously, I can tell you that I was excited about meeting these kids and they did not disappoint!

settling down now

Believe it or not… I have never photographed a high-school senior session before. I feel so strongly about babies and children and my passion to photograph them that I never considered it. I believe, as a business owner, it is important to focus specifically on your target client and then become increasingly the best at photographing that type of client.  For me, I easily fill my books with newborns, children and families and I feel like that is my calling. So, when Kate, my first cousin, asked me to photograph her for her senior portraits I was a bit nervous. Would I know how to pose her? Would I be able to make her look like the beautiful, glamorous girl she is? Would I remember not to sing and make silly faces in front of her? Oh- the nervousness it caused….

Now, once you see Kate you will know that it takes little skill to photograph her well. She is stunning and she carries herself so elegantly. Don’t you agree?

We started the morning with almost no plan as I knew we would drive around and find locations that inspired both of us. However, when I drove up to this abandoned house, I think Kate was scared. I knew she was not seeing what I was seeing. Luckily she, like most of my clients, trusted me and here is one of the images we got at that location.

Next stop… an abandoned back lot of a store…. Now that is glamorous! Kate makes urban look good!

I have to admit that it was a treat to have a client who actually listened to me and responded positively to suggestions I made. None of that is the norm for a three-year-old. No career path change after the senior session but it was lots of fun. Thanks Kate for a wonderful morning together!
