Ok, never again will I try to save a few bucks by opting to “do it yourself” construct a piece of furniture. I realize that a bean bag really isn’t furniture (although I may have argued this point in college) but it was probably MORE annoying than a table or chair would have been to assemble. Actually, annoying doesn’t even begin to describe the situation. Disaster. Disaster would be a better descriptive. Here’s what happened…
I ordered a large leather bean bag for use in the studio. Great prop for little ones! It was sent “un-filled” along with 4 gigantic bags of styrofoam beans to be placed inside. When we began the arduous task of delicately pouring the beans into the bag through the tiny, 8 inch velcro opening we realized that this was NOT going to be easy. You see, styrofoam is seriously static-y, especially in the dead of winter. So when we went to “pour” beans into the bag, they instead stuck all over the OUTSIDE of the bag…and us. And the floor. And the walls. This-is-not-a-joke!

“Hey, I have an idea!” I said. “Why don’t we get my kids out here to help us?”…..famous last words….

So as things went from bad to worse, we finally broke down- in fits of laughter. Might as well take advantage of this wonderful photo opp!

Finally, the clean up. 3 grown women, 3 kids, 1 shop vac and oh, I don’t know, maybe an hour later? SUCCESS!
Lesson learned= sometimes “do it yourself” isn’t always best. And styrofoam is evil. Happy Wednesday!
