Here at the studio we have been creating Christmas cards for months now. However, I find it hard to really feel “in” the holiday spirit when it is 80 degrees and humid. So, I was grateful for this session on a blessed cool day with some colors that just put me in the spirit.

Lauren and Jackson have always been favorite clients of mine! I adore their momma and spending time with the kids is always fun. Lauren was about 9 months when I first photographed her and it has been really neat to see what a beautiful little girl she is changing into!

Jackson is so handsome and he was especially well behaved during our time together. I think he was working hard to earn a biscuit breakfast with his mom!

I hope this post might get you all a little in the holiday spirit. I can’t change this muggy weather but we can all feel a little more cheery after seeing this precious family!

it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….

First let’s take a trip back in time… 2009
I remember when this family was blessed with a second child and now they are three children strong. Big sister and brother have fully adapted to the addition of a sibling and now they can’t even remember life without her!
three siblings
It is always a pleasure for me to see this family again. Not only are three of the most polite children I work with but they are also silly and fun with great imaginations!

Little Iris is learning so much every day from her big brother and sister and she is beginning to get a little more verbal about her likes and dislikes.

Now for the reason for the title….
This momma is one of the most creative women I know. Each year she MAKES her kiddos Halloween costumes and they are always ADORABLE!!! It is always a fun final shot for me to get the kids in their costumes. I loved Batman this year and I can’t wait to see what next year (with three costumes) will be….

children swinging on playset
This is a picture I took yesterday of my kids playing in the backyard. Shipley, the child on the far left, is so nurturing and sweet. He is holding baby Adam (named after a “bud” (yes, that is what he calls his friends) who is in his class at school). Baby Adam pretty much goes everywhere with Shipley! Slaton is in First Grade this year and he is such a compassionate child. He is always thinking of others and he genuinely feels bad when someone else gets hurt. Eliza is our sweet angel who lives life to the fullest. Her laugh is contagious and she is my child who will look at me and for no real reason say, “I love you so much mom.” MELT… I can never hear those words enough. I try to be sure I always say “I love you” enough and live that love with my children.
For the next week, I am going to spend my time concentrating on my kids and my precious husband. Please forgive any unanswered calls or emails but I will be back to it all on the 15th, I promise. :)
Enjoy your week….

Five year old in red sweater sitting by fence
Three years ago I was honored to photograph this little fella for the first time. At that time, he was really attached to “baby”, a stroller he loved to push. Mom, who has such a tender heart, brought it to the session and we photographed Andrew pushing it around. He was just a two-year-old toddler at the time and he was so precious.
Then, the next year, Andrew was three. If you want to know how well most three year olds do at photography sessions then refer to this post. Three is a hard age for any child and this session was so hard that we almost gave up after trying for well over an hour. Then, miraculously Andrew pulled it together and we got all we needed. However, I think we all left feeling pretty exhausted. Guess what toys Andrew loved at age three…

With age three behind us, we all knew age four would be much easier to photograph. This year the toy was dinosaurs. We had many conversations about Triceratops and Brontosauruses. I am always amazed how kids know so much more than I do about most things.

So, this year I was filled with anticipation regarding the “toy of the moment”. I was delighted to see Andrew climb out of his car holding the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine and the action figures to go with it! As a child I LOVED Scooby-Doo and it has been so much fun for me to see my children watching and enjoying it. Andrew and I immediately began sharing Scooby stories and talking about the different episodes. Kindred spirits I tell you….

This year, Andrew was sweet enough to bring along his grandparents and his Aunt. Isn’t this one of the best looking families ever? What’s even more awesome is that they all have these amazing hearts! I enjoy every session they all make it to!
family love
Finally, you must know that while Andrew is loved and adored by so many.. no one loves him more than his sweet momma!

Scooby-Dooby-Doo

Unfortunately, this beautiful fall-esque morning was a only a tease. We sooo enjoyed the crisp air, golden light, changing leaves, and cute fall outfits that these fun folks dressed their little ones in.
twin boys and a one year old girl

I really enjoyed getting to see the personalities that these little guys have developed. While we had one helper sitting eagerly for my camera, we had another exploring our exciting surroundings. I’m sure these cuties keep their Mom and Dad on their toes at home- but that’s half the fun!

Little sister was ready to explore too. Now that she can walk, there’s nothing stopping her…

But, not to worry- she’ll always come back to love on Mom and Dad.

Ok guys, don’t grow up too fast! I look forward to many more exciting sessions with you and your family in the years to come.

Why hello, fall?

two chinese sisters sitting in the grass together
Even though this is only my second time photographing Willow and Olivia, I have known these sweet girls for years. They are both adopted from China (as is my daughter) and live close to me. Over the past four years, we have socially attended several “Chinese” events together. When I first met Willow and Olivia they were both four and I remember thinking how big that seemed. At the time we had a three year old and two kids under one and I wondered if we would ever get to a place where my kids could be just a little bit independent. Honestly, I now look back at myself and laugh.. four is really still such a baby… it is all perspective…
mother and eight year old child hugging
While I can still see a lot of “child” in these girls, I am beginning to see them stretching for the teen years. Instead of now looking ahead and hoping for that- I find myself now wishing my babies would just stay where they are forever. I can do without the hormones and the talk of who “likes” who… they are so innocent now… but alas, there is no freezing time!
little girl with a yellow flower in her hair
These girls are blossoming into beautiful young ladies. Thank goodness they still adore their Mom and they are still wonderful about showing her the love she deserves.
Chinese eight year old leaning against fence
One day, in not to many years, that might momentarily change. I know then, Mom will look back at these images and savor each moment of life right now. Life always seems sweeter when we look back at it. After all, it is all perspective.
