Lucky for me, I first met this family when big sister A. was a week old. I have watched her go from being a newborn, then blossom into a baby, grow into a toddler, and now she is a wonderful big sister.
It is so amazing to me how girls truly are more nurturing naturally. Her smart Mommy and Daddy got her a baby to hold and love to help her grasp her new baby sister’s arrival, and what a success. Big Sis A. is a pro! She is patient and sweet and an excellent big sister.

Hello Baby K.—an amazing and beautiful baby girl who wins the heart of anybody in her presence.

I don’t often meet a newborn with hair ready to rival Billy Idol, but he has met his match. (I realize I am dating myself!) I could not get enough of it! atlanta newborn photographer
This sweet baby girl spent some time in the care of Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta. The outstanding care and support by the Children’s staff ensured her safe return home to Mommy, Daddy & Big Sis. I remember a scare I had with my oldest child and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta also provided us with premier care for our baby boy. This organization is very dear to me! It is a special place for so many families with sick children. If you have the means to donate, please visit this link to make a donation. You will most definitely touch the lives of so many families and maybe even a child you know.

Can you imagine all of the secrets, princess dresses, and cupcakes these girls will go through together? Having a sister is a special gift, and I am lucky to have the opportunity of witnessing the beginnings of this special bond.

I captured this image of her just as she was nodding off. Little baby bodies change so quickly and are nearly unrecognizable compared to their newborn phase just two short months after birth. Her little creases and rolls will only multiply, as will her giggles and smiles. It is a lovely way to spend time—watching your little babies grow up!

a baby sister

It is that time of year again when I have the chance to photograph my favorite family from Kentucky. This is the fourth year they’ve driven to Atlanta to work with me, and I’ve enjoyed each session. This family has gone from one to three boys during that time, and as you all know, I cherish the opportunity to capture a family’s growing personalities. *You must  notice the dirt on the middle child’s leg. These boys are seriously BOYS!*
mom and boys
The newest addition to the family is another red head! I LOVE red hair! I had hoped one of my boys would be born with red hair (since Daddy has lots of red in his hair) but alas, only blond in my house.

I’ve watched the oldest boy grow from a fitful and unsure toddler to a strong and very helpful big brother. His easy smile and kind heart made photographing him a breeze.
big brother
This is the middle brother, another adorable redhead! He was a bit crabby when he first arrived, but when he warmed up, he couldn’t have been any more lovable.

What is it about boys and the irresistible need to wrestle anytime they are huddled together? That is one endearing thing I enjoy about my boys, and these boys are no different. Showing a little brotherly love between these three gave me a great opportunity to capture a few engaging tug-of-war moments.
wrestleAnother great session, my sweet Kentucky family. Thank you so much for making the trek to Atlanta once again. I look forward to seeing you all again in 2010.

I am currently booking newborn sessions for the remainder of 2009, and beginning to fill my calendar for 2010. Please call me to get on the books if you are interested in a 2010 session.

welcome back to GA!

Being the mother of my three children, I find occasionally belly-ache a bit about not having enough me-time. Meet my next family…A family with five very athletic and active children all going in opposite directions! One organized and calm mother runs the show, and a very coordinated show she runs!

(My belly-aching has been quieted!)

party of five

When this family first pulled up, all of the children had their own agenda. Occasionally, as some of you know, having the mother disappear around a corner for a few moments and letting me use my crafty master’s of education can miraculously turn things around. Five minds going in different directions were rounded up and here are a few of the results.

The smaller children were so enticed by the setting and wanted nothing to do with my camera. Exploration was calling them from every corner. Ahhh, a perfect time to use my education! I had the younger ones sit with me, and one at a time, photographed them and sent them on their merry way of exploration after they completed their task. Satisfaction flowed a-plenty.

Five beautiful and growing personalities all came together and I captured this during the session: five children, happy and enthusiastic about their family and each other.

A lot of craziness and chaos creates a lot of good, resonating memories—as anybody from a large family can tell you.

This family and I crossed paths when their little guy was born. I love it when this happens because I get to capture all the sweet, juicy stages of a little life. He is such an easy and unassuming baby to work with, which makes my job of capturing his personality a complete joy! Look at this smile and those blue eyes…what a handsome fella!

Is it a jet, airplane, or flying saucer? When this little guy smiles, it’s all good.

Finding some sweet moments with Mom and Dad came easy. His mommy describes him as having a funny personality and smiling back when someone smiles at him. As you can see, he’s hamming it up and I loved it! This is one happy little babe!

Dad and his baby boy were so fun to photograph together with each of them being so fond of the other. A good time is always just around the corner when Dad, Mom and babe are all together.

Touchdown! Isn’t it so fun when our little ones start mimicking us? Having this stage behind me now, I forget how fun teaching our children the little in’s and out’s of the good stuff….like football!

Grace rarely happens at 18 months old, but this girl was born with it. Her sweet demeanor lusters as she parades around with a newborn hat that fell out of my bag. I gladly let her have her fun with it, and got a few happy, silly images during the hoop-la. Her mommy, little A.’s most favorit-est person on Earth, tries to adores her from afar when she can. However, at this stage, mom has no choice but to embrace the clingy phase A. is in right now. All of us seasoned moms know that the various phases pass in the blink of an eye and then you are left fondly remembering “that time”.

Her timeless and classic clothing, beautiful curls and stunning blue eyes reminds me of a child from long ago. I think back to our first session and am reminded of the gorgeous white bonnet she wore for her six-month-portraits. Boy, time does fly.

I find this dress stunning. A very simple, enduring dress coupled with a child who is sweet and mischievous at the same time. I love the complementary perfection of it!

ferrelly03_1

Mom knows that a little encouragement goes a long way! While this age is so hard to capture due to the constant movement and the quick and common mood-swings, it is the perfect age to capture the relationships that are forming, developing and blossoming!

old-fashioned girl

I have a very special little girl to introduce you to. If you live in Smyrna, Vinings, or Mableton you will be seeing her grace the cover of Our Town magazine this week for the September issue. Her name is Sophie and her passion is helping raise money for the Atlanta Animal Pet Rescue. To accomplish her fund raising goal, Sophie made a 2010 calendar to sell. The proceeds from the sale of the calendar go to the rescue center. Here is a picture of Sophie with her darling calendar:

We asked Sophie some questions about her project.
Where and when did your love for animals begin?
I have loved animals ever since I can remember. When I was born we had two dogs named Jesse and Winnie and I loved them right away! They are in Heaven now.
What is your favorite animal and why?
Oliver, my dog, is my favorite animal. He is my favorite because he sleeps in my bed with me. My second favorite animals are elephants.
Here is a picture of Sophie with Oliver. I think it is clear how much she adores him!
atlanta pet rescue
How did you come up with the idea to do a calendar to raise money for an animal shelter?
I love to do art and I care for animals so it was the perfect thing to do!
What would you like to accomplish with your calendar earnings?
I want to give all of my money to the Atlanta Pet Rescue and I want to help animals that are hurt or that don’t have a home.
Tell us about your pets at home.
Oliver is really fuzzy and likes to chase my little brother around and likes to chew on everything! He is very protective, especially when the Pizza man comes! He is also very loyal.
When I photographed Sophie, it was clear to me she is not only good with pets but she is also very good with little kids, like her brother!
sohie and boden
The money from the calendars and any donations I get go to helping dogs such as “Sparky.” Sparky is a sweet dog that was horribly mistreated by someone and needed to see many people and veterinarians to help him. My calendar could help many more animals like Sparky to find the medical care they need and loving homes they deserve. If you would like to read about Sparky or all of the wonderful things the Atlanta Pet Rescue is doing, please go to their website.

If you would like to purchase one of Sophie’s calendars ($20 each) please e.mail her at sophiehelps@charter.net
