After my sibling experience last week with baby Eliza, I was a little nervous about the siblings for today’s newborn session. Would big brother cooperate or would he shove this baby away and make us all so sad? Big brother J. is a typically active little guy who has much better things to do then hold this new baby. However, I must say that J. was cooperative and calm and we were able to work fast and get this.

Sweet baby E. was so wide away that she was actually the hard one to photograph. Those little newborn eyes tend to go in a million different directions. So, I am always delighted to walk away from a session with an image like this:

Newborn sessions are always tricky because there are so many variables. Luckily we took this image in the very beginning before any of the real craziness started.

We were able to send big brother on his way to school and then we thought the peacefulness would begin and we would get to work. However, as fate would have it, little E. was just getting ramped up. She pooped 5 times, peed 3 times, spit up once and then in the craziness of it all- she lost her belly button. Mom and Dad looked as exhausted as I felt when they left the studio way over three hours later. It was a long morning for all of us but so well worth it now that we see the final product.

So, little E. was literally a stinker during her first session. However, this image makes your heart melt and you love her all the more!

How truly wonderful it is to welcome a sweet, brand-new, baby into the world who shares the same name as my little girl! Yes, we all know that Smith is such a common name. However, Eliza is not that common anymore. My grandmother was “Eliza” which is how we choose to use the name. I think of it as a very old-fashioned, elegant, proper name. However, I realize that probably most of my views on the name were deeply influenced by how lovely my grandmother was.

This little Eliza is a beauty. She was just the perfect little model on this morning. She did not cry (not even a whimper), she hardly woke up and she did not do any “business” on anyone or anything. Perfect already…

Meet her big brother, whom I have a long standing relationship with. I began photographing him when he was Eliza’s age. We are buddies.. but obviously not good enough buddies. I was sure we could convince him to hold Eliza, touch Eliza, sit in the same room with Eliza. Oh well… forget it… It is very hard to adjust to a new sibling. I enter this week nervous as I have two newborns to photograph and both of them have two-year-old big brothers just like Eliza. Time will tell if I can get either of those big brothers to show some love to their new babies! Anyway, here is sweet big brother who might hold Eliza at the six-month-session. :)

Love, love this family! I am honored to be invited to be Eliza’s photographer!

Today was the day… I loaded all three children up and off we went to school. It was Slaton’s first day of Kindergarten and the “babies” headed off to pre-school. It has been a summer filled with so much fun and adventure. We rented a camper and did one week of camping, we went to Nashville for a weekend, we spent several weekends at our mountain house and finally this past week we hit the beach for some much needed rest. The children are at really fun ages and I am eating them up (most of the time) and enjoying every moment we have together.

I fully realize in a blink of an eye my children will be so big- like these guys…. this gorgeous brother and sister…

When booking her session this mom wrote, “Sending your first child off to college is a big transition! I find myself wanting to capture her and her relationship with her brother.”

What big changes are about to take place in this family! This smart mom had the foresight to freeze time with images capturing her daughter, her son and their relationship.
So, what is their relationship. Well… I can promise you one thing.. it does not lack emotion, silliness, or fun!

Mom said what she loves most about them is, “They are close friends, have a great sense of humor, are smart, love dogs, are resilient, love to travel, love God, are respectful, are nice to younger children, are passionate about life, LOVE their crazy, mixed up big family, will watch reality tv with their mom and are wonderful people!” Seriously, I can tell you that I was excited about meeting these kids and they did not disappoint!

Thanks for a wonderful afternoon that was just fun, fun, fun for me!

I love lots of ages but when it comes to photographing… 6-9 month children are really, really my favorite. They are expressive, fun, silly, and so sweet. It was a treat to have Dad at this session with little J. I think some of you might remember this Dad from his first babies newborn images. The images were the ones in the black 5×7 album that sits on the coffee table in the client room. Dad had missed baby J.’s newborn session so he wanted to be a part of this one. I am so happy he was here.

Of course, it was equally as fun to have J.’s beautiful momma with us!

This mom is always the best at finding fun props for little J.

This portrait is a favorite of mine from the session. This antique stroller is one of my favorite props I own. It was almost destroyed by an aggressive child one time so now I am a little more picky about who I place in it. J. was the perfect calm child to try it out.

I am so honoored to be featured today on the blog of Luxecetra. This is the company that helped me with the creation of Libbie Wicket. It was such a pleasure to work with these girls. On my blog you have read a little bit about how the process went. Now, feel free to head to their blog to see what they have to say about creating Libbie and working closely with me on developing the brand.

I realize I have not shared any images of my children in quite some time. Not sure why except that life seems to be so busy. So, here is one image of each child. These were taken on July 4th up in Blueridge, Georgia.
The oldest who is (sniff, sniff) going to start Kindergarten next week!

Although I love to see children act like themselves and interact, sometimes I have to push and prod a little during a session. I will often say, “Can you hold your sister’s hand?” “Can you put your arm around your sister?” This sister was ready to pose and do whatever we asked of her but her brother, well, he is three. Three in our house has been really hard. I am not sure why people make such a big deal out of a child being two. Really, two is fine with me but three is a challenge. If you don’t agree- come hang out with my TWO three-year-old’s for an evening. They will give you an earful. Anyway, the image above happened in a moment of me encouraging the little guy to be kind and love on his sister. Finally, he decided to cooperate and this was what I got. Actually, I love it! It is real, funny and is very showing of moments to come.
Okay- enough of the silly business! Let’s get to the serious stuff! These kids were beautiful and mom did an awesome job coordinating all the outfits for the session!

This child is five and so in love with tutus, pink, and all girlie stuff. She was excited about putting the tutu on and being a ballerina for a bit!

I leave you with the parents of these beautiful kids. We were putting the kids in the car and the light bulb went on… “Wait,” I said, “we have not photographed just the two of you.” This is so much easier to do once you strap the kids in the (air-conditioned) car. So, here you have it. Proof that there is a couple behind the family!
