I love this time of year because the calendar always fills with sweet little newborns. As most of you know, those sessions are some of my most favorites (followed closely by the 6 month sessions!). I was thrilled when mommy K. invited me to photograph baby Harper. I adore this family as they have been clients for several years and have now become good friends. When I get to see my clients again and again, every session is pure fun because we know each other so well.

I am thrilled to say welcome to this most perfect little angel, Harper…

She is already so loved by her big sister!

Big sister C. told me that she is a great big sister and I believe her. C. was especially good and cooperative during our session!

As a reward for her good behavior, C. got to head off with Grand mom to Chick-fil-a for a treat while daddy and mommy spent some time loving on just brand new little Harper!

I know mom and dad agree, it is wonderful being a family of four!

One thing I am trying to be better about is taking more pictures of my children. I rarely photograph them unless we are actually going some where special special. I seem to miss a lot of the day in and day out regular stuff. I really want for my children to have a good idea of what their lives were like when they look back at the photographs. Certainly, not every day at our house is going to Disney, the zoo, the park, and the other “events” where I tend to take pictures. Today was lots of fun. Wawa (our wonderful au pair) and I took the “babies” to music class this morning. At lunch time, Jeff and I went to our gym and registered for “The Biggest Loser”. Can you guess what I will be doing over the next month? Yep, the game is on and I am determined to beat at least Jeff (who, already has lost 20 pounds!!!). Finally, I came home from work at 2:30 and Slaton and Wawa were at the table playing with “slime”. Slaton put these lips on and I looked at him, looked at the lips, and then decided I wanted this picture!

Wawa is always so great to offer to take a picture of me with my children. I taught her long ago how to use my camera. So, I get it all ready and she focus’ just perfect and clicks! Viola!

So sad the “babies” were napping and missing all the fun. I just love this final portrait I took of Slaton. He is a very soulful kid and I just love him with all my heart!

I hope you all can build a big fire and snuggle with someone you love this weekend! It is certainly stay indoors and snuggle weather!
Peace and love….

another day in the smith house…

It has been a couple of months since I posted two days in a row. When I talked to “bed rest Cristina” tonight, she mentioned that she was sure there had been other clients since the triplets and she wanted to know where those images are. You have to know that Cristina is one of the most driven friends I have. I adore that when she takes on a project (she is an interior decorator… and did the studio decorating as well as lots of my home) she will work and work until it is done. I am sure all of you out there who know me… realize that I love this about Cristina because I am the same way. Cristina and I together are a force when we take on a project. Anyway, you can all imagine how nutty someone like Cristina would be sitting in a bed all day! Cristina has lots of time to stalk the blog right now and think about why I am not posting more. It is good to (occasionally) be called out and now for Cristina’s and my sake I am catching this Blog up and keeping it current!

Finally you all get to meet the Kellys! I am sure you will remember that they are one of the families who I gave a session to at Christmas time. Their son, Ian, is incredibly handsome and such a good baby! It was such a treat for me to be able to meet the Kelly’s and to get to know their hearts a little. Both mom and dad are so warm and welcoming and I immediately felt right at home in their home. Please enjoy this precious baby…

I title this: Safe in Daddy’s Arms!

It was a very rainy, cold day but we did run outside for just a few images!

Since Ian was born just before Christmas, I was excited about getting a portrait with the tree in the background.

I knew going into this session I wanted to try to incorporate baby Isaac’s memory in a few of the images. When Dad brought me this portrait of Isaac, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. This image is in memory of Isaac and of the past and of Ian and the hope for the future…

To the Kelly’s,
May God richly bless your family as you raise baby Ian to be a strong, proud, healthy, loving child. It was a pleasure working with your family!

on a roll now…

Can you believe that this:

is now this:

This mommy booked her maternity and newborn session with me when she was about 20 weeks along. It was not too long after that when she was put on bed rest at home. Days later she was admitted to Piedmont where she spent about 15 weeks on bed rest. She decided that a maternity session was just not going to work in her small hospital room where she had been for so long. So, she let me know that we would just meet when the babes were born. However, one of my past clients who works at the hospital, convinced her to call me back and ask if I would be willing to come try it. I was thrilled. So, a few days before Thanksgiving we gathered in the tiny hospital room for a very fun afternoon. C. and her mom quickly became friends as we laughed and played for the afternoon.
The call came soon after that session with the news that the babies had arrived! Unfortunately, each baby had to do there time in the NICU. So, the week of Christmas I finally got the opportunity to meet the newest triplets on the block. The boys are identical twins and the little girl will be spending her life keeping those boys in order.
All babies were so calm and happy and with help from Andrea, mom, dad, Grand mom and Grand dad… we were able to keep everyone sleepy and peaceful! Now please let me introduce these beautiful babies to you.

For anyone reading this who has ever lived with a newborn…. just imagine living with three… Here is a quick picture I took of Dad while I was busy photographing another one of the babies. Do you think he is a little bit tired?

Finally a shout out to a dear client turned friend who is anxiously awaiting the birth of her third baby. She is experiencing pre-term labor and is on bed rest at Piedmont. She has nothing better to do then to remind me she is still waiting for images of the triplets to be posted….ahhh, the life…. :) So, sending a little prayer and many good wishes to Cristina for a healthy beautiful baby to arrive soon. Of course, stay tuned here for pictures of this little one when he or she arrives in the next few weeks!

welcome 2009 :: Old Blog

I honestly cannot believe that 2008 is gone. The year flew by and I am watching my children really grow before my eyes. I always felt that the early days (newborn days) went on forever but now that everyone is getting older it seems that time is flying. My husband, Jeff, and I decided that for Christmas this year we wanted to spend as much quality time with the children as possible. Jeff and I both took almost three weeks off of work to be with the the children and with our extended family. I am so happy we did because some of the memories and the moments will forever be a part of our hearts!

I wanted to share a bit of our holiday craziness with you before we all get back to the grind.

The first week of vacation we took the children and our wonderful au pair and we headed down to Orlando. We actually planned not to do Disney but at the last minute decided…. why not? The weather was fabulous and the first day we went swimming at the resort. Each child had a new pair of swim goggles that they were more than excited to wear!

The following days in Orlando were spent swimming, shopping, one day at Animal Kingdom, one day at Magic Kingdom, and one day at Sea World (which I have to insert here and say was the best park of all three!). The first day at Disney I did not take my camera but instead let the park photographers do their magic. Here we all are at the very very end of the day. We are even more exhausted then we look if you can even believe that!

Animal Kingdom was really fun and they also had lots of the Disney characters. Shipley and Eliza both wanted nothing to do with any of them but Slaton was a little interested. Slaton and Eliza were standing alone in this bushy area when up walked these guys:

I thought Eliza might freak over them approaching her but she totally held her cool. Believe it or not, Eliza is my most scared and my most brave child. I know that makes little sense but she is amazing like that. When presented with a new situation, she is very shy, nervous and clingy. However, given about 20 minutes to warm up, she is the star of the show. I guess by this time she was finding her comfort zone!
We arrived home only a couple of days before Christmas so Jeff and I had to step it up into overdrive to pull it all off. We were so lucky to have our very sweet (and beautiful) cousin Kate (my ONLY first cousin!) here in Atlanta visiting her Dad for Christmas.

We spent Christmas day at my families house celebrating and enjoying all the children!

On the 26th we headed down to Jeff’s families home to celebrate Christmas with them. It is always a treat to head down there where time goes slowly and conversations center on horses, family, and food. A visit to their home is typically the only place I ever take a nap. I really love it. While there we celebrated Eliza’s birthday with a cake and a song! Lucky for Eliza, this year we celebrated her birthday twice with both families. No “friend” party this year so I was over compensating. :)

Jeff and I shared a quiet, wonderful New Years and headed our to Snow Mountain the next morning. We actually had to go buy the children warm enough clothing the night before since we did not want the day to focus on how cold everyone could possibly be! We were dressed just perfect for the windy, cold, snowy day.

The children really enjoyed the small sledding area.

While we waited an hour for the big guys to sled down the big hill…. Shipley, Eliza, Wawa, my mom and I made this!

I have had lots of folks ask about Snow Mountain and our experience there. I believe that this is the first year Stone Mountain has offered this and they will have some major tweaking to do as they go. While we certainly had fun…. there were some down sides.
-No soft snow to make “angels” in.
-It was impossible to find buckets and shovels to build your snowman with. They tried to provide these but there were not many and they were in high demand. I would suggest taking your own.
-The wait to sled down the mountain was an hour. That is worse then any ride we waited on at Disney. That is way too long for one ride.
-The food in the snow area (there is just one little place to get snacks INSIDE THAT AREA) is very, very expensive and it was GROSS. Seriously guys… we got seven hot dogs and I am here to tell you they were NOT edible!
-The little children sledding area was chaotic. There were no formal lines and little ones were getting constantly hit by sleds rushing down the hill before they had time to exit. It was really too crazy. It takes one parent at the top and one at the bottom for this to be safe.
On the plus side… the tickets included both the tram and the train. We took advantage of riding on both of those and I think it was a highlight of the day.
Was it worth $25 per person? I think so… we stayed about 6 hours and made it worth it. We did eat a meal at Miss Katie’s and the food was great! It was a perfect place to warm up and sit still for a bit!
If you are still with me….. well, I am not sure why… but we are almost at the end….
Finally, we spent the last few days in Chattanooga, TN. I am not kidding you when I tell you it is the PERFECT city to take the family and get away to for the weekend. We could have stayed three or four more days and had plenty to do. The Creative Discovery Museum was incredible and we had a blast walking through Ruby Falls! We stayed downtown at the Residence Inn where they have suites for families. We really have to have that much space when we travel now and this hotel worked out beautifully.

Well, sadly, that brings us to the end of our journey! I am feeling refreshed and excited about all the new things coming up in 2009! I have had LOTS and LOTS of newborn clients booking over the past week so please look forward to seeing lots of wee ones featured here in the next few weeks!
Happy 2009 to all of you! May God bless you all with happiness, peace, and good health!
