The first baby to come into a couple’s life is always so special. I can still remember Slaton’s little cry and how my heart would ache to go quickly and soothe whatever the problem was. In my experience as a mother, when the other babies came along, the strong urge to run to the baby diminished slightly from the first time around. I am not sure if why that is the case. My bet would be it has something to do with experience and exhaustion. The first baby is just so special in that way- he/she always holds that very tight grip on your heart. To this day, Slaton can cry and my knee-jerk reaction is to take off to help him. It is that same cry I remember him having when he was so brand new and he could not help himself. I am sure that as my children grow- I will continue to want to shelter them, fight their battles for them and protect them. However, I pray that I will know when it is time for me to let my children fly on their own. God knows the little cries of all His children and ultimately, as our children reach adulthood, it is God’s job to protect and guide our children. It is my job to work hard right now to raise confident, smart, good-decision-making children so that one day I can step back and watch them soar on their own.
This sweet baby is the first child to grace this couple. Life in their house was so warm, comfy and clearly all about doing the best for this new little fella. He is certainly deserving of all the attention. In my short time with him, I could tell he is a very good little baby. He let me move him all around and he cooperated like a champ. Baby P. will always be a very special first born baby.
